Privacy notice.
1. Introduction
This policy explains how Avanti Medico ('Avanti Medico', 'we', 'us') collects, uses and protects your personal information, and the rights you have over it.
Avanti Medico is a UK health-information platform that helps you understand a diagnosis, medication or procedure you have already been given. We know that what you type into a health website is sensitive, and this policy explains, honestly, how little we collect and how carefully we treat it.
Avanti Medico is operated by Avanti Mind Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16049394), whose registered office is at The Venture Centre, Sir William Lyons Road, University of Warwick Science Park, Coventry, England, CV4 7EZ. Avanti Mind Ltd is the 'data controller' for the personal information described in this policy. Avanti Mind Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (registration number ZC172544).
If anything here is unclear, please contact us — our details are in section 13.
2. The principles behind this policy
Before the detail, the principles that shape everything below:
- We collect as little as possible. Avanti Medico is anonymous by default; when accounts open, an account will need only an email address.
- We never sell your data, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We carry no advertising, so we have no reason to profile you.
- You stay in control — when accounts open, you will be able to see, export and delete your information at any time.
3. When this policy applies
This policy applies to:
- The Avanti Medico website and application.
- Anyone who uses Avanti Medico, whether anonymously or with an account.
- People who contact us or subscribe to updates.
It does not apply to external websites Avanti Medico links to, including NHS websites, which have their own privacy policies.
4. The information we collect
4.1 If you use Avanti Medico anonymously
Most of Avanti Medico can be used with no account. When you do, we do not collect your name or your contact details. To keep the service working and fair, we use a temporary, anonymous session held by your browser. It allows the service to function and to apply fair-use limits. It is not linked to your identity. We also collect limited technical information automatically (see section 4.4).
4.2 If you create an account, once the service opens
Accounts are not open yet. When Avanti Medico opens, you will be able to create an account if you choose to save your activity. If you do, we will collect:
- Your email address — used, once the service opens, to send you a secure 'magic link' for signing in, and to send essential messages about your account.
- The content and conversations you choose to save — the looked-up pages and guidance conversations you will have chosen to save to your account.
- Basic account records — for example, when your account was created, your plan, and your communication preferences.
We do not ask for your name, date of birth, postal address, NHS number, or any clinical records.
4.3 Subscriptions, from when they open (not active)
Nobody can subscribe today, and no payment is taken. From when subscriptions open, if you choose the Unlimited plan, we will collect a record of your subscription (your plan, its status, and its dates). Card payments will be processed by our payment provider, Stripe, which will handle your card details securely; Avanti Medico will never see or store your full card number.
4.4 Information collected automatically
When you use Avanti Medico, we collect limited technical information needed to run and protect the service — for example, your device and browser type, general location at the level of region (derived from your network address, not precise tracking), and records of activity that help us keep the service secure and reliable. We do not use tracking cookies to follow what you look at. On the Avanti Medico web app we count which kinds of page are used, without cookies, using our analytics service PostHog. It never sees the web address, your search words or anything you type. You can turn this off (see section 9 on cookies).
4.5 Health-related information
When you look something up or ask a question, the topics you choose — a condition, a medication, a symptom you have been told to watch — are health-related, and UK law treats them as a special category of personal information deserving extra protection. We explain the legal basis for handling this in section 6.
4.6 If you contact us
If you contact us or subscribe to updates, we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address and your message.
When you submit our contact or newsletter form, we also record the IP address the submission was sent from. We keep this purely as an anti-abuse signal — to detect and rate-limit automated or spam submissions — and not to identify or track you.
Messages sent through our contact form go to Avanti Mind's own support system, which runs on our hosting provider's servers in France, within the European Economic Area. A member of our team reads every message and replies to you by email; no automated system answers it, and your message is not passed to any AI provider. We do not need your health details to answer an enquiry, so please leave them out.
5. How we use your information
We use your information only for these purposes:
- To provide Avanti Medico — to deliver content, answer questions, run guided conversations, and save your activity if you have an account.
- To send sign-in links — once the service opens, to send and verify your magic-link sign-in.
- To keep the service safe and fair — to apply fair-use limits, detect and prevent misuse, and protect the service and its users.
- To handle subscriptions — from when subscriptions open, to manage billing and your Unlimited plan.
- To respond to you — to reply to messages and enquiries.
- To send essential service messages — for example, about your account, about billing from when subscriptions open, or about important changes to the service.
- To send optional updates — only if you have asked to receive them.
- To improve Avanti Medico — using anonymised or aggregated information that does not identify you.
- To meet our legal obligations — for example, keeping necessary records.
We do not use your information to build an advertising profile, and we do not use your guidance conversations to monitor your health over time.
6. Our legal bases for using your information
UK data protection law requires us to have a 'lawful basis' for using your personal information. Ours are:
- Consent — for handling health-related information associated with an account, and for optional updates.
- Performance of a contract — once the terms are in force, to provide the service to you under them, including managing your account and, from when subscriptions open, your subscription.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and improve it, where this does not override your rights.
- Legal obligation — where the law requires us to process or retain information.
Health-related information is a 'special category' of personal information under UK GDPR. Avanti Medico is not a healthcare provider and does not rely on the healthcare-provision basis available to clinical services. Where we handle health-related information connected to an account, once accounts open, we will rely on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a) of the UK GDPR. You would give that consent by choosing to create an account and use account features, and you will be able to withdraw it at any time by deleting your account.
7. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We share information only with a small number of trusted providers who help us run Avanti Medico ('sub-processors') — for example, providers of hosting, email delivery, and (from when subscriptions open) payment processing. Each is bound by a contract to handle data only on our instructions and to protect it, and none may use your information for its own purposes. We publish the current list of these providers on our website.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of an individual or the security of the service.
8. Where your information is stored
We aim to store and process personal information within the UK or the European Economic Area wherever possible. Where any provider processes information outside the UK or EEA, we ensure an appropriate safeguard recognised by UK data protection law is in place.
9. Cookies
Avanti Medico uses cookies and similar technologies:
- Essential cookies keep the service secure and working — your session, security protections, and your fair-use counter. These are always on and cannot be switched off, because the service cannot work without them.
- Preference cookies remember a setting you have chosen, such as whether you prefer the light or dark appearance, so the site looks the way you left it.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not share cookie information with third parties. We set only the cookies needed to run the site and to remember your own settings, so we do not ask you to accept a cookie banner. On the Avanti Medico web app we also count page visits without cookies, to improve the service. UK law allows this without asking first, as long as we tell you and you can say no. You can turn it off at any time in Cookie preferences in the web app. The app's privacy policy explains what is collected.
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop parts of the service from working.
10. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it:
- Anonymous session information is short-lived and is automatically deleted after a short period.
- Account information and saved content are kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, your conversations and saved content are removed, and your account record is deleted after a short grace period.
- Subscription and billing records, from when subscriptions open, will be kept for as long as we are required to keep them for legal and accounting purposes.
- Contact and enquiry messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up.
11. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the following rights over your personal information:
- The right to be informed — this policy.
- The right of access — to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- The right to rectification — to have inaccurate information corrected.
- The right to erasure — to have your personal information deleted.
- The right to restrict processing — to limit how we use your information in certain circumstances.
- The right to data portability — to receive your information in a usable format.
- The right to object — to object to certain processing.
- The right to withdraw consent — at any time, where we rely on consent.
Once accounts open, you will be able to export your saved content and conversations from within your account, and to delete individual items or your whole account, at any time. For any other request, contact us. We will respond within one month.
12. Children
Avanti Medico is intended for adults. It is not designed for or directed at children, and when accounts open we will not knowingly create accounts for children. If you believe a child has created an account once accounts are open, please contact us and we will remove it.
13. How to contact us, and how to complain
If you have a question about this policy, or you wish to exercise any of your rights, contact us:
- By post: Avanti Mind Ltd, The Venture Centre, Sir William Lyons Road, University of Warwick Science Park, Coventry, England, CV4 7EZ
- Through the website: our contact page.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know directly.
