In an emergency, call 999 now.

If you or someone else has symptoms that could be life-threatening, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness, confusion, severe bleeding or a serious injury, or anything that frightens you, call 999 straight away. Do not search first. Do not wait for Avanti Medico.

Emergency help is on every screen, and it is never behind a paywall.

The help label

A numbered label is pinned to the top of every page. It is the same everywhere, it is drawn in red, the colour the site keeps for help, and it does not scroll away.

  1. Emergency

Call 999 if someone is in danger or you think it could be life-threatening.

What Avanti Medico will and will not do

It will

  • Explain a diagnosis you have been given, the words in your letters and the medicines you have been prescribed, in plain English.
  • Show the source of an explanation, the date it was fetched and how fresh it is.
  • Put emergency help first if what you write sounds like an emergency.
  • Say when it is not sure, and send you back to your GP.

Avanti Medico explains. Your clinician advises, and your GP knows your history.

It will not

  • Diagnose. Avanti Medico is not a symptom checker.
  • Tell you how urgent something is. That is for NHS 111.
  • Predict how things will go for you.
  • Give doses, or personal advice. Those belong with your pharmacist and the person who prescribed.
  • Watch over your health. No symptom tracking, no monitoring, no alerts.

If Avanti Medico is not the right tool, it says so and points you to your GP, NHS 111 or 999.

A caution about any check

No safety check is perfect. Whatever any website tells you, if something feels like an emergency to you, call 999.

If it feels like an emergency, treat it as one.

If you are struggling

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, or you are in distress, reach out to someone who can help now. Call Samaritans on 116 123, free, any time of day or night. In an emergency, call 999.

Avanti Medico is not designed for a mental health crisis. It is a place to understand a diagnosis, and it steps aside for these services.

Tell us if something looks wrong

If you think Avanti Medico has shown you something inaccurate or out of date, or missed a moment it should have caught, tell us through the contact page. We read every report, and safety reports come first.

Use Avanti Medico to understand. Use real care to be looked after.
